County Board Chairman Jay Fisette recognized Arlington seniors (55+) for their volunteerism and leadership during a recognition luncheon, hosted recently at The Jefferson retirement community.
Fisette revealed that in a year’s time, seniors contributed 18,000 volunteer hours which was worth $430,000.
Marilyn Marton, chair of the Arlington Senior Council (ASC) , emceed the event which was attended by ASC members, senior center advisory committee members plus the 55+ travel committee, Arlington Alliance and others. Jane Rudolph, director of the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) installed the 2017-18 ASC officers which included Marilyn Marton, chair, John Gunning, vice chair, Sue Lang, treasurer and Andrea Vojtko, secretary.
Jennifer Collins, 55+ Unit Manager, Office of Senior Adult Programs,, presented the first Fran DeSilva award for advocacy to Andrea Walker and outstanding leadership awards to Marge Corletti and AnneMarie Pittman. Collins recognized Laura Lazour, retiring DPR Sports and Recreation division chief, and expressed appreciation for her years of support for senior programs.
