A Mount Vernon resident for more than 50 years, former representative to the Virginia House of Delegates Frank Medico died Dec. 30, 2016 at the age of 92.
Medico served the 44th district as a Republican for four terms, from 1982 until 1990.
He previously worked as assistant director of the U.S. General Accounting Office for two decades before retiring in 1979. In the community, Medico volunteered as co-chair of the Mount Vernon Council of Civic Associations.
Medico’s son Fred said an outpouring of praise in Facebook comments showed how much his father meant to his community.
“You could feel his heart when he was trying to help you,” said Fred Medico. “He did a lot of that during his life. It’s just the kind of guy he was. He had a good heart, he believed in God, was a devout Catholic.
“He was good in the spirit, good in the heart,” he continued. “That's what he showed in his time here, especially in his community. If they ever met him, they wouldn't forget him. He was just that kind of fella, you could feel him.”
Medico was born in South Braintree, Mass. He is survived by his adult daughters Jane and Patricia Medico; son Fred Medico; daughter-in-law Susan Medico; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The family welcomed friends to Demaine Funeral Home in Alexandria on Jan. 8. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 9 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria, with interment scheduled to follow at Quantico National Cemetery.
