While many people will celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with family, others have no one to spend it with – much less a home-cooked Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings. That’s why for more than 20 years, Christ House in Alexandria has been serving a Thanksgiving dinner to the poor. This Thursday, Nov. 24, at 1 p.m., Bishop Paul S. Loverde will be at Christ House giving them his blessing, joining them in prayer and song, and serving their meals.
Up to 75 guests will receive a free meal, prepared by a professional chef who’s been cooking Thanksgiving at Christ House for 21 years.
“Keep the Christ House staff and volunteers in your prayers who turn the Thanksgiving holiday into a merciful holy day,” said Art Bennett, president and CEO of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington. This will be Bishop Loverde’s last year serving at Christ House as Bishop of the Diocese of Arlington. He retires next month.
