Mount Vernon Athletic Club (MTVAC), Alexandria area fitness and tennis club, donated the money that was raised during its 10th Annual “Swing for Pink” tennis charity event held every October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Since 2006, the club has been hosting this event and has raised over $124,000 for the cause. The funds raised by Swing for Pink are used in the local community; specifically at the Breast Care Institute at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital and Inova Alexandria Hospital Cancer Center. Funds go directly to families who are fighting the disease and are seeking care.
The charity event was open to the public and included a tennis round robin, a silent auction, dinner, wine tasting, and more. In addition to event sponsor, Joan Van Metre, and host sponsor, Kihomac, Inc., major sponsors included: The Carol Farquhar Family, Blue Chip Tennis Academy, Rex Reiley of Re-Max Allegiance Group, and Dr. Brian Bodnar of Bodnar Chiropractic.
MTVC gave special appreciation to Gordon and Anita Murchie and the Atlantic Seaboard Wine Association (aswawines.org) for all their support over the past 10 years. They provide the wines and personally oversee the wine tasting portion of the evening and to member Stephanie Melvin of Wisteria who provided flowers/arrangements for the evening event.
MTVAC, which provides tennis programs, also offers a fitness facility, exercise classes, personal training and an onsite Wellness Spa. Mount Vernon Athletic Club is located at 7950 Audubon Avenue in southern Alexandria. See www.mtvac.net
