Community Meeting on Old Courthouse Road

Supervisor Catherine M. Hudgins (D-Hunter Mill) and Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will host a community meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 7-8:30 p.m. at Wolftrap Elementary School Cafeteria, 1903 Beulah Road, Vienna. Residents will be able to learn more about the project which seeks to improve the safety and stormwater conditions at the Old Courthouse Road and Besley Road intersection in Vienna. Staff will be at hand to answer questions during the meeting.

The agenda for the meeting is as follows:

• 7-7:30 p.m. -- Open House to view display of proposed improvements;

• 7:30-7:45 p.m. -- Short Presentation;

• 7:45-8:30 p.m. -- Question and answer period.

In addition to the community meeting, a public website has been established to solicit comments from the community. If you are unable to attend, you can still submit your comments on the project website at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/fcdot/oldcourthouserd_realignment.htm. The public comment period will be closed on Jan. 29.

Stuff the Bus 2016

Fairfax County is promoting its annual "Stuff the Bus: Helping Fairfax Families" program at 14 locations from Jan. 16 to Feb. 15, 2016. This collaborative program, now in its sixth year, is a partnership among Fairfax County Government, local grocery stores and nonprofits to restock the shelves.

Each week a Fastran bus staffed by MV Transportation personnel will park at a different location and collect food donations. The campaign kicks off Saturday, Jan. 16, the weekend leading up to the Martin Luther King Day of Service, and will run each weekend until President’s Day, Monday, Feb. 15.

All donation hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 30 - McLean Giant, 1454 Chain Bridge Road, McLean. Benefiting Share, Inc.

Jewel Scholarship Deadline Feb. 18

The Joyce-Gillespie-Harrington Educational and Charitable Foundation, Inc., (JGH) invites applicants for its 36th Annual Jewel Scholarship award. The $1,500 scholarship is awarded to 10 local students aspiring to pursue an undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university. The scholarship assists with tuition and other educational expenses.

For over 36 years, JGH has recognized and awarded certificates of achievement and scholarships to high achieving, socially and/or economically disadvantaged students during its annual awards program in June. Applications for the Jewel Scholarship are being accepted from Jan. 4 through Feb. 18,. For details and the application, please visit www.JGHFDN.org.

American Legion Post Offers a Breakfast Buffet
