Incidents
Fraud - 500 Block Macarthur Avenue, NE. Between Jan. 26 at noon and Feb. 8 at noon. A resident reported her personal identification had been compromised through a data breach with Anthem Insurance. She stated since that time there had been two occasions when someone attempted to open a Capital One credit card in her name. Both attempts were unsuccessful. This case is being investigated.
Arrest – Warrant Service - 400 Block Berry Street, SE. Feb. 4, 8:50 a.m. Officer Post received information that a resident was wanted on a warrant from the King George County Sheriff’s Office. After arriving at a residence she located the individual, a 29-year-old man from Birch Street, SW in Vienna. The man was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was served with the warrant and released on an unsecured $1,000 bond.
Lost Property - 100 Block Patrick Street, SE. Feb. 4, 1 p.m. A resident reported he lost his wallet somewhere between Washington, D.C. and Vienna.
Suspicious Event - 300 Block Locust Street, SE. Feb. 4, 7 p.m. A resident reported his dog alerted to someone at the front door. He stated he went to investigate and found a packet of Gummy Bears attached to an advertisement for Liberty Tax Services. He felt this was suspicious as it could be tempting to children.
Found Property - 1100 Block Westbriar Court, NE. Feb. 5, 6:53 p.m. A resident turned in a men’s wallet he found near the creek by his home. An officer attempted to contact the owner but was unsuccessful. The wallet will be held at the Vienna Police Station in the event the owner is contacted.
Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated - 300 Block Maple Avenue, East. Feb. 6, 3:22 a.m. An officer was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit a traffic offense. As a result of that offense he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the signs of impairment. After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested the 33-year-old man from Alloway Lane in Beltsville, Md. for Driving While Intoxicated. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. After the analysis he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and remanded to the custody of the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office.
Domestic Dispute - Manvell Road, SE. Feb. 6, 2:48 p.m. A resident reported he and his step-father had become involved in a heated argument after the step-son read some disparaging texts his step-father sent his mother. An officer responded and after speaking with all the parties involved he determined the argument had not turned physical. The step-father agreed to stay in his room and let things calm down. The mother and her son agreed to leave the house for a while.
Narcotics Violation - Southside Park, 1317 Ross Drive, SW. Feb. 6, 9:47 p.m. An officer was on patrol when he observed a vehicle parked in Southside Park in violation of the No Trespassing after Dark Ordinance. As a result of that violation he approached the vehicle and identified the driver and one of the passengers as being juveniles. After further interaction with the driver and passenger he located a measurable amount of marijuana. The two were released to their legal guardians. This case is being investigated.
Arrest – Narcotics Violation - Lawyers Road at Colin Lane, NW. Feb. 7, 2:59 a.m. An officer was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit a series of traffic violations. As a result of those violations he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his approach to the vehicle he detected the distinct odor of marijuana. After his interaction with the driver he located a measurable amount of marijuana. The officer issued summonses to the 26-year-old man from Girard Street, NE in Washington, D.C. for Possession of Marijuana and Speeding. The driver contacted his girlfriend who responded to the scene and took him home.
Vandalism - 1100 Block Ware Street, SW. Feb. 7, 4:36 a.m. A resident reported his home had fell victim to an egging. He stated this is the third time this has occurred in the past several months.
Found Property - 500 Block Windover Avenue, NW. Feb. 7, 8:51 a.m. A taxi driver turned in a credit card that had been left in his cab by a fare. An officer attempted to contact the owner but was unsuccessful. The card will be held at the Vienna Police Station until the owner can be identified.
Grand Larceny - Giant Food Store, 359 Maple Ave., East. Feb. 7, 1:45 p.m. A customer reported she had been shopping at the Giant Food Store when she discovered someone had taken the wallet from her purse. She stated she had been walking from the produce section to the Deli Counter, when she returned to her cart the wallet was gone. This case is being investigated.
Animal Case - Oak Street at Cottage Street, SW. Feb. 8, 7:40 a.m. An officer responded to the area for the report of an injured raccoon. Upon arrival he determined the raccoon could not be saved.
Suspicious Event - 100 Block Maple Avenue, West. Feb. 8, 3:58 p.m. A Fairfax County Connector bus driver reported an elderly rider had been acting up and fell injuring his mouth. The individual transferred to a Metro Bus and left the area prior to the arrival of the police. Metro authorities located the man in Tysons Corner and were able to check his welfare.
Sexual Assault - 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE. Feb. 8, 11 p.m. A citizen responded to the Vienna Police Station to report she had been walking behind the Cedar Lane Shopping Center when she was approached from behind, pushed to the ground and sexually assaulted. After the assault the man left the area. This case is being investigated.
Juvenile Case - The Cedar Lane School, 101 Cedar Lane, SW. Feb. 10, 8:47 a.m. An officer responded to the school after an employee reported a student had left the building and was refusing to go back in. The student was counselled on the importance of returning to class. He agreed to heed that advice.
Found Property - 500 Block Meadow Lane, SW. Feb. 10, 9 a.m. A resident responded to the Vienna Police Station to turn in a key chain containing a key and a flashlight she found on the sidewalk near Meadow Lane Park. The key chain will be held at the station in the event the owner can be identified.
Arrest - Narcotics Violation - 200 Block Maple Avenue, East. Feb. 10, 11 p.m. An officer was on patrol when he observed suspicious behavior by the occupants of a vehicle. Due to this behavior he made contact with the driver. After speaking with her he located a measurable amount of Marijuana. The officer issued the 21-year-old woman from Oak Creek Place in Oakton a summons for Possession of Marijuana. She was released after signing the summons.
Petit Larceny - Michael’s, 311 Maple Ave., East. Feb. 11, 8:45 p.m. A customer had been shopping in the store when she decided to go to the bathroom and left her hand basket, containing her wallet unattended outside the bathroom. She stated when she returned to get the basket is was gone. She looked around the store and found her basket and wallet in another isle. She stated she went to the cashier to pay for her merchandise and realized her money had been taken from the wallet. An officer responded and attempted to obtain surveillance video but was unable to as the manager on duty did not have access to the video system. The officer left the store but was contacted a short time later by an employee who informed him the money had been found. The customer was contacted and will respond to the police station to retrieve her money. She did not wish to follow through with an investigation.
Crashes
400 Block Maple Avenue, East - Feb. 6, 12:30 p.m. A vehicle was legally parked in the parking lot and was struck by the driver of a white Lexus backing out of another space. The driver of the Lexus did not stop to exchange information.
Maple Avenue at Mashie Drive, SE - Feb. 8, 7:45 a.m. The drivers of two vehicles were traveling northbound on Mashie Drive in the same lane of travel. The driver of the first vehicle stopped to make a right turn onto Maple Avenue, SE. The driver of the second vehicle attempted to pass the first vehicle and a collision occurred. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a summons for Passing on the Right.
McDonald’s - 544 Maple Ave., West. Feb. 8, 6:13 p.m. The owner of a legally parked vehicle returned to find it had been struck by an unknown vehicle.
Glyndon Street near Manvell Road, SE - Feb. 10, 4:35 p.m. The drivers of two vehicles were parked side by side in the 500 Block of Glyndon Street, SE. The driver of the vehicle on the right attempted to back up and struck the vehicle on the left.
Maple Avenue at Branch Road, SE - Feb. 10, 5:24 p.m. The drivers of two vehicles were traveling westbound on Maple Avenue in the same lane of travel. The driver of the first vehicle stopped for the red traffic signal and then attempted to move when the light turned green. The driver of the second vehicle rear-ended the first vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a summons for Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.
Nutley Street at Roland Drive, SW - Feb. 11, 6:21 p.m. The driver of the first vehicle was traveling northbound on Nutley Street, SW. The driver of the second vehicle was traveling southbound on Nutley Street, SW and attempted to make a U-Turn at Roland Street, SW and collided with the first vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a summons for Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.
