As night fell, about 50 people attended the Town of Herndon's annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 3 at Herndon's Old Town Hall on Elden Street. Sponsored by the Herndon Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Herndon, the ceremony consisted of members of Herndon High School Band performing 10 Christmas Carols with the audience singing along. Herndon Mayor Lisa Merkel and Eileen Curtis, President of the Herndon Chamber of Commerce, greeted the crowd and thanked the many sponsors of the event. Afterwards, the Christmas tree that sits on the grassy area in front of Old Town Hall was lighted and Santa arrived by fire truck to greet the children and pass out candy.
