Reston Art Gallery & Studios (RAGS) presents an exhibit of paintings by Dorothy Donahey in her show “Sunrise…Sunset” on display from Sept. 2 through Oct. 6. All are welcome to meet the artist at a reception on Sunday, Sept. 18 from 2 until 4 p.m. In this show, Donahey’s paintings are inspired by dawn and evening skies, and from musicals. “I’ll let the viewers decide which came first in my muse – the color of the sky, or the songs,” says Donahey.
Donahey specializes in acrylic and oil paintings of representational abstraction and realism. As an expert in commercial color printing, she has traveled the nation lecturing on Color Science (Colorimetry) for HunterLab in Reston, and has served as a professional color consultant. Among her repertoire of fine art paintings, she is also known for her “Awareness Donkey,” now in the permanent collection at American University, which resided on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. in the “Party Animal” series presented by the D.C. Commission of the Arts and Humanities. Donahey received her BFA from Ohio State University and has been part of the RAGS cooperative since 1993. Learn more and see samplings of Donahey’s work on the RAGS website, RestonArtGallery.com.
