Fall 2016 and early 2017 are scheduled to be a busy time for the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office. Over the next few months, the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office will prosecute 10 murder cases.
“My office has a truly unprecedented amount of murders going on right now,” said Commonwealth Attorney Bryan Porter said in an email. “We have never had this many … We have never had more than four murder codefendants at anyone time to my knowledge.”
The North Side of Old Town Murders
CW v Rashad Adkins: Set for a jury trial the week of Jan. 23, 2017. Adkins is charged with the murder of Shakkan Elliot-Tibbs, a 22-year-old Woodbridge Resident murdered July 2, 2015.
CW v. Brian Bolar: Set for a jury trial the week of Oct. 3, 2016. Bolar is charged with the murder of Leon Williams, a 37-year-old father of two on Oct. 8, 2015.
CW v. Dijuan Clark: Set for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 26, 2016. Dijuan Clark is charged with the murder of Saquan Hall, a suspect in the investigation of Clark’s brother, Pierre Clark’s, murder. Hall was killed on July 2.
The Pit
CW v. Alvaro Saenz-Castro: Set for sentencing on Oct. 20, 2016.
CW v. Reinaldo Portillo Membrano: Set for a hearing to select a trial date on Oct. 13, 2016. Saenz-Castro and Membrano are charged with the murder of Jose Luis Ferman Perez on Nov. 9, 2015. In April, Leidi Granados Gutierrez pled guilty as an accomplice and was committed to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Cora Kelly
CW v. Boris Rosa Castro: Set for sentencing on Oct. 27, 2016.
CW v. Edwin Guerrero-Umana: Set for jury trial the week of March 6, 2017.
CW v. Jonathan Gomez-Sorto: Set for a hearing to select a trial date on Sept. 15, 2016.
Castro, Guerrero-Umana, and Gomez-Sorto are all charged in connection with the murder of Edwin Almandarez on Nov. 28, 2015.
S. Alfred Street Robbery/Homicide
- CW v. George McGee: Set for a jury trial the week of Sept. 19, 2016.
McGee is charged with the murder of Melaku Abraha, who was robbed on March 28, 2016, and died as a result of his injuries on April 1.
West End Domestic-Related Murder
- CW v. Clarence Terry: Set for a hearing to select a trial date on Aug. 25, 2016. Terry is charged with the murder of Shakeel Baldon on May 5, 2016.
