Kelly Layfield and Alyson Franca Pollard used to host yoga classes all around Clifton -- the town hall, large barn, any green open space -- but not longer. On Oct. 2, the pair opened WheelHouse Mind Body studio on Chapel Road, in the center of Clifton’s historic downtown and around the corner from Main Street. Drawing from their diverse physical training backgrounds, the studio offers yoga, pilates, barre, flexibility High Intensity Interval Training and personal training classes.
The two women had previously been running independent small businesses out of their respective homes: Layfield with pilates, Pollard as a certified personal trainer.
In spring 2015, the longtime friends joined forces to co-teach outdoor yoga in the town square on Sunday mornings. “We’re like yin and yang,” Pollard said.
In July, they heard the space on Chapel Road was available and decided to move forward with establishing WheelHouse under one roof.
“It’s always been needed here,” Layfield commented on having a centralized fitness opportunity in Clifton. “We want it to be for everyone.”
Pollard added that when they presented the idea to the Clifton town council, it wasn’t difficult to win them over. “The people were hungry for it,” she said.
The pair explained the intimate size of the studio will allow them to offer a more personable, individualized experience during classes. “We love the boutique feeling here,” Layfield said.
