Macy Lindbloom, SCA president, leads the Pledge of Allegiance with Principal James Meier at her side during Waynewood Elementary School’s celebration of Veterans Day. On the Daily Owl News, several children interviewed family members who are veterans. After the news, all students, each carrying a small American flag, walked silently out of the building to positions in front of the school. Each flag represented a person who served in either the Army, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, or Navy. Students placed their flags on their hearts and recited the Pledge of Allegiance, while the school flag was being raised. Students then placed their flags in the ground along the walkways and silently walked back into the building. After the ceremony there was a reception in the cafeteria for active military, veterans and their families. Coffee, pastries, and fruit were donated by Tom Harvey of Hollin Hall Automotive in honor of Veterans Day.
