Incidents from Oct. 23-29.

Animal Case – Quarantine, 300 Block Church Street, NE, Oct. 19, 5 p.m. ACO Barker received a report stating an employee at the Pender Veterinary Centre in Fairfax, Virginia had been bitten by a dog named Winston. The bite occurred as he was attempting to remove him from a cage after surgery. Winston will be recuperating and waiting out the quarantine period at home with his owner. ACO Barker will follow up with this case.

Animal Case – Quarantine, The Hope Center, 140 Park Street, SE, Oct. 21, 10 a.m. An employee reported she was bitten on the hand by a five week old kitten while attempting to perform a medical procedure. The kitten will be quarantined at the Hope Center. ACO Barker will follow up.

Suspicious Event, 600 Block Blackstone Terrace, NW, Oct. 21, 1 p.m. A resident reported she had been having problems with her computer and decided to reach out to an online company. She felt the company was a legitimate Wireless Tech Support company and allowed the individual on the phone to access her computer. The resident became suspicious when he requested she purchase several hundred dollars’ worth of equipment to repair her computer. She was also concerned the individual may have used programs to gain access to her personal information stored on her computer. Officer Hylinski informed her to contact her bank about setting up credit protection services.

Destruction of Property, Taco Bell, 362 Maple Avenue, East, Oct. 21 between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. An employee reported an individual had gone into the men’s room and stayed for approximately a half hour. After the half hour the employee heard a loud noise and went to investigate only to find the man passed out on the floor and the bathroom commode had been dislodged from the floor. The man was transported to an area hospital. This case is being investigated.

Grand Larceny, Chipotle, 213 Maple Avenue, East, Oct. 21 between 6:15 p.m. and 10 p.m. A customer reported she left her purse hanging from a chair while dining at the restaurant. She stated she left the restaurant, forgetting her purse, and when she returned her purse containing an undisclosed amount of cash was taken. This case is being investigated.

Vandalism, 400 Block Blair Road, NW, between Oct. 22 at 8 a.m. and Oct. 24 at 8 a.m. A resident reported the wires to a “Deer Chaser,” an electric device which emits a high pitched frequency to scare deer away, had been cut by what appeared to be wire cutters or a similar tool. He stated he spoke with his neighbors and no one had any information about the damage.

Missing Juvenile - Runaway, Holmes Drive, NW, Oct. 22, 6 p.m. A resident reported his son had left a note stating he needed time away from his parents and then left the house. This case is being investigated.

Suspicious Event, McDonald’s, 544 Maple Avenue, West, Oct. 23 9:51 a.m. A student from James Madison High School was instructed by the School Resource Officer to file a police report, after a friend sent him an email informing him that other students were going to slash his tires.

Vehicle Tampering, 300 Block Holmes Drive, NW, Oct. 24 between 1 a.m. and 10 a.m. A resident reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle and had taken an undisclosed amount of money and other personal items. This case is being investigated.

Suspicious Event, 200 Block Courthouse Road, SW, Oct. 24, 1:54 p.m. A resident reported finding roofing nails at the end of his driveway. He believes the nails were placed there intentionally.

Domestic Dispute, Westview Court, NE, Oct. 24, 3:49 p.m. A resident reported she and her husband had been involved in an argument concerning the terms of their upcoming divorce. MPO Smith explained several legal options available to them. The wife left the residence in a cab.

Animal Case, 300 Block Sherwood Drive, NE, Oct. 24, 3:59 p.m. Officer Tremont responded to the area after a resident reported seeing an individual carrying what appeared to be a deer carcass. Upon arriving Officer Tremont located the individual along with two of his friends who had, using a crossbow, shot three deer. The men had all obtained hunting licenses and believed they were hunting legally. They were informed they were not permitted to fire a crossbow in the Town of Vienna. The three men apologized and stated it would not happen again.

Destruction of Property, 200 Block Yeonas Drive, SW, Oct. 24, 4:47 p.m. A resident reported a fellow tenant had broken the Mercedes-Benz emblem from the front of a vehicle belonging to another tenant. The tenant accused of the vandalism left the area prior to the arrival of Officer Herrera but returned a short time later. He denied breaking the emblem and stated he found it on the ground and was attempting to fix it. The owner of the vehicle was informed of the warrant process should he wish to pursue charges.

Medical Case, 300 Block Holmes Drive, NW, Oct. 24, 9:50 p.m. Officer Slebonick responded to a residence for a possible domestic dispute. Upon arriving he was informed by the resident that she and her son were arguing and she was afraid he was going to harm himself. After speaking with medical personnel it was determined her son was not going to harm himself. He agreed to seek medical attention from his personal doctor.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated, 700 Block Tapawingo Road, SW, Oct. 25, 3:02 a.m. Officer Slebonick responded to the area after receiving a report of the driver in a vehicle passed out on the roadway. After searching the area he located the vehicle with the driver asleep and the vehicle parked in the middle of the roadway, facing oncoming traffic. After awaking the driver he detected the signs of possible impairment. After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested the 25-year old man from Polo Drive in Fairfax, Virginia for Driving While Intoxicated. The man was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. After the analysis he was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and No Driver’s License. He was held on a $3,000.00 bond.

Assault, 7-11, 537 Maple Avenue, West, Oct. 25, 1:44 p.m. A customer reported he and another customer became involved in a verbal argument over who was next in line. The complaining customer stated the customer behind him struck him in the back of the head with a bottle. The customer declined to be seen by rescue personnel. The individual who struck him was described as a black male in his 30s, 6’2” and 250 pounds. He was wearing a black jacket and spoke with an African accent. He was seen leaving the area in a black Nissan Altima.

Arrest – Drunk in Public, McDonald’s, 544 Maple Ave., West, Oct. 25, 1:48 p.m. Officer Slebonick responded to the area after receiving a report of an individual refusing to pay a cab driver for his fare. Prior to the arrival of the police officer the individual agreed to pay his fare. After arriving Officer Slebonick determined the individual was extremely intoxicated. The 30-year old man from Glencroft Road in Vienna was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Drunk in Public. He was to be held until he was sober.

Assist Fire/EMS, The Wolftrap Hotel, 430 Maple Avenue, West, Oct. 25, 1:59 p.m. An employee entered a guest’s room and found the guest to be passed out and unresponsive. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel responded and transported the individual to an area hospital for treatment.

Medical Case, The Wolf Trap Hotel, 430 Maple Avenue, West, Oct. 25, 5:23 p.m. Officer Tremont responded to the Wolf Trap Hotel after a guest reported he was having thoughts of harming his girlfriend. The guest requested he be transported to an area hospital where he could be treated. Officer Tremont transported him to an area hospital where he was evaluated by the medical staff.

Assault, Westwood Country Club, 800 Maple Avenue, East, Oct. 25, 9:00 p.m. A member of the country club reported that she and her family were having dinner when an argument erupted concerning the check. She stated one of her family members cursed at her and then threw his drink at her. Although the glass did not hit her, the drink did get on her chest and clothing. MPO Vazquez informed her of the warrant process should she decide to pursue charges.

Assault, 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE, Between Oct. 26 at 9:30 p.m. and Oct. 27 at 12:04 a.m. A resident reported he and a roommate had become involved in a heated argument concerning who was going to be making tea in the kitchen. The resident stated the argument escalated and he received scratches and a rug burn from the altercation. The other roommate was also questioned and denied any type of physical altercation had occurred. Officer Lyons informed the roommates of the warrant process should they decided to pursue charges. They agreed to stay separated for the evening.

Assist Fire/EMS, 400 Block Church Street, NE, Oct. 27, 9:20 a.m. Officer Hylinski responded to a doctor’s office after receiving a report that a patient, who had been undergoing a stress test, collapsed and was unresponsive. When Officer Hylinski arrived, Fairfax County Rescue personnel were actively performing CPR. The patient was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Suspicious Person, 500 Block Kingsley Road, SW, Oct. 27, 9:33 p.m. A resident reported an unknown man had, for the second time, been at the resident’s home looking for his son. The resident stated if the man returned again he would pursue having him formally trespassed from the property.

Found Property, Westwood Country Club, 800 Maple Avenue, East, Oct. 28, 1:04 a.m. Officer Lyons responded to the Westwood Country Club after an alarm company reported an alarm had been activated. While searching the premises she located a baseball cap and a cellphone. The items will be held at the Vienna Police Station in the event the owner is identified.

Found Property, The Vienna Police Station, 215 Center Street, South, Oct. 28, 1:52 p.m. A concerned citizen responded to the Vienna Police Station to turn in a purse she had found. The purse contained items that assisted in identifying the owner. Officer Tremont was able to contact the mother of the owner who responded and took possession of the property for her daughter.

Petit Larceny, Giant Food Store, 359 Maple Avenue, East, Oct. 28, 2:56 p.m. An employee reported a customer entered the store and attempted to obtain a refund for an item he had not purchased. A witness in the store observed the customer take the item off the shelf and walk to the checkout line for the refund. A store employee suspected this was a fraud but agreed to exchange the item for a gift card which upset the customer. The customer left the store prior to the arrival of the officer. This case is being investigated.

Crashes

Tapawingo Road at Cottage Street, SW, Oct. 22, 8:20 a.m. The driver of the first vehicle was traveling eastbound on Tapawingo Road, SW and stopped at the stop sign at Cottage Street, SW. The driver of the second vehicle was traveling southbound on Cottage Street, SW and stopped at the Stop Sign at Tapawingo Road, SW. Both drivers stated they came to completed stops and entered the intersection when the collision occurred.

100 Block Maple Avenue, West, Oct. 23, 3:38 p.m. The drivers of two vehicles were traveling westbound on Maple Avenue, SW in the same lane of travel. The driver of the first vehicle stopped due to traffic and was rear-ended by the second vehicle.

200 Block Dominion Road, NE, Oct. 23, 9:01 p.m. The owner of a legally parked vehicle discovered his vehicle had been struck by an unknown vehicle.

Kinsley Road at Ware Street, SW, Oct. 27, 9:41 a.m. The driver of the first vehicle was traveling southbound on Ware Street and stopped for the stop sign at the intersection with Kingsley Road, SW. The driver of the second vehicle was traveling eastbound on Kingsley Road and stated she stopped at the Stop Sign at Ware Street, SW. She then took her eyes off the roadway and continued through the intersection colliding with the first vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a summons for Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

100 Block Nutley Street, NW, Oct. 27, 5:14 p.m. The driver of the first vehicle was traveling southbound on Nutley Street, NE and was struck by the driver of the second vehicle as he attempted to enter a parking lot.
