Mount Vernon Woods Elementary School celebrated its 50th anniversary on Wednesday afternoon, March 4. The students were gathered in the gym for a special presentation by some of their teachers. Melissa Green recited a poem “Greatness Begins With You.” Susan Crank and Dr. Lukisha Barrera Gibbs prepared a history of the school and the property the school sits on going back to the time that it was owned by George Washington and called Muddy Hole Farm.

Music instructor Truman Hartzog led the children in the singing of the school song “Mt. Vernon Woods is the School for Me.” A slide show depicting the school through the years accompanied by music of the era was presented by Carolyn Hyman.
