Boy Pronounced Dead after Lorton Pool Rescue
A 2-year-old boy was pronounced dead at Inova Fairfax Hospital on June 18, Fairfax County Police announced Friday, June 19.
The boy was discovered June 14, unresponsive, at the bottom of a pool in Pirate’s Cove Waterpark at Lorton’s Pohick Bay. At the time lifeguards were clearing the pool for lightning.
Police said the apparent cause of death is drowning. No criminal charges are anticipated.
Lightning Strike Causes Lorton Townhouse Fire
Units responded to a townhouse fire, Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at approximately 7:55 p.m., in the Lorton area of Fairfax County. The single-family townhouse is located at 8868 Hibiscus Court.
Firefighters encountered smoke and fire coming from the roof and attic of the three-story, end unit townhouse upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and quickly brought the fire under control. No one was home when the fire broke out. A neighbor witnessed lightning strike the roof and called 911. Red Cross support was offered but declined by the occupant. There were no injuries.
Damage is estimated at $89,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. A lightning strike struck the roof and caused the fire.
