Capitol Post director Emily McMahan, at right with Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert McDonald, will manage The Bunker@DC, a new business incubator program for veterans. The Alexandria location will serve the DC region and is one of 11 Bunker locations in the country.

The Bunker@DC, an incubator program for early-stage, veteran-owned businesses and veteran entrepreneurs, is accepting applications through June 30 for its first cohort of companies.

Operating out of the Capitol Post’s co-working office space in Old Town, The Bunker@DC will support veterans in launching and growing a business in a peer- to-peer setting.

The Bunker is a national organization providing peer-learning environments for veteran-owned companies in 11 cities across the country. The first cohort started in Chicago and includes 19 companies selected from more than 60 businesses who submitted an application to participate.

The Bunker@DC is seeking all types of businesses to apply to be part of its first cohort. According to the Capitol Post website, the ideal company will be a legally formed entity, in its first or second year of business, with a scalable business model. However, all applications will be considered.

Over a six-month period, members of The Bunker@DC will receive work space in the Washington Square complex at 625 N. Washington St. and have access to venture funding information and resources including Bloomberg, GovWin and numerous business publications.

The cohort program also includes a curriculum provided by the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business. The entrepreneurial education sessions will focus on entrepreneurship, building personal strengths and business practices to effectively manage small business growth.

Applications for The Bunker@DC are available at www.TheCapitolPost.com. Deadline to apply is June 30 and responses will be made by July 10. For a tour of The Bunker@DC or for more information about the program costs, contact Krista Ludwig at 703-652-5347 or krista.ludwig@thecapitolpost.com.
