Old Town Alexandria Connections presented its inaugural Peter Williams Memorial Scholarship to local high school graduate, Amy Holm, on April 22 at the Belle Haven Country Club. Presenting the $500 award are (from left) Juli Monroe of 1 to 1 Discovery; Amy’s parents, Michael and Elizabeth Holm; award recipient Amy Holm; and Debbie Farson of HomeWise Referrals. OTAC started the scholarship for high school seniors to recognize and encourage the community spirit demonstrated by the late Peter Williams, the organization’s past-president. This year’s recipient is a West Potomac High School senior who has lived in Alexandria all her life. She plans to attend University of California, Berkeley. She has been involved in her community as a church youth leader, girls basketball coach, and tutor. As a freshman and sophomore, she captained her school’s Junior Varsity basketball team and has captained the Varsity field hockey team as an upperclassman. Amy is assistant editor in chief of her school year book. Her volunteer service includes cooking for Carpenter’s Shelter, delivering groceries with ALIVE!, and engaging in summer mission work abroad.
