I encourage everyone to donate to St. Jude Children’s’ Research Hospital and Shriners Hospital for Children — two very worthy organizations that do so much for the children’s health and outlook on life.
St. Jude does pioneering research and treatment for children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. During its existence, St. Jude’s has increased the survival rate of cancer children patients from 40 percent to 80 percent because of the pioneering cancer research done at the hospital. That result has given hope, life and opportunities to many children. Children are provided medical treatment regardless of families’ inability to pay. Shriners Hospitals are a nationwide network of 22 hospitals with services that include orthopedic conditions (e.g. prosthetics for missing arms and legs), burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate to children under 18. These hospitals have helped more than one million children reach their potential and lead more fulfilling lives regardless of their families’ inability to pay. Most of the donated money for both St. Jude’s and Shrine’s goes to help the children with little used for administration and raising funds.
