Aldrin Elementary School will be celebrating Read Across America Week with a weeklong series of events. Students will dress in themes for each day of the week including: Red and White Day, Foxiest Socks Day, Wear Your Clothes Inside Out Day, Pajama Day, and Cat in the Hat Day. There will be a One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish –Goldfish cracker estimation contest with the winner receiving a book.
Guest Reader Day will be held on Thursday, March 5. Guests include delegates to the Virginia Assembly, Ken Plum and Tom Rust; Virginia Senator Janet Howell; several representatives from Aldrin's business partnerships with Middleburg Bank and Worldgate, LLC; FCPS school board members Janie Strauss and Ted Velkoff; Marty Smith, FCPS chief of staff; Kristen Michael, FCPS assistant superintendent of financial services; Susan Quinn, FCPS chief operating officer; FCPS Region 1, assistant superintendent; Evangeline Petrich, FCPS Region 1, executive principal; Kerrie Wilson, CEO, Cornerstones; Cate Fulkerson, president of the Reston Association; and many others.
On Friday, March 6, Shane Wolfe, principal of Aldrin Elementary School will become a “human sundae.” Wolfe challenged the student body to read a total of 3,000 books in four weeks. If the students meet the challenge, Wolfe will become the sundae and select students will have the opportunity to top Wolfe with sundae toppings while their classmates watch in a school assembly.
