Incidents

Fraud - 200 Block Cherry Street, SW. Between Nov. 6 at 12:47 p.m. and Nov. 7, 11:11 a.m. A resident reported she received a telephone call from an individual claiming to be her grandson. The caller informed her he had been incarcerated in Florida and asked for money to be bonded out. The caller instructed the resident to purchase a prepaid credit card and then call back with the security numbers and he would be released. After purchasing the cards and calling the number provided by the caller, the resident was informed he needed to purchase another prepaid credit card to bail his friend out of jail also. The resident, believing the caller to be his actual grandson, purchased another credit card and telephoned the caller again and provided that information. During the Thanksgiving Holiday the resident spoke with his grandson who informed him he had never been to Florida and had not been incarcerated. Sgt. Farhan informed the resident he had been the victim of a scam.

Fraud - 400 Block Niblick Drive, NE. Between Nov. 7 at noon and Oct. 29 at 12:05 p.m. A resident reported he received a bill from AT&T for the purchase of cellular phones and service. He telephoned AT&T and informed them the purchase was made without his knowledge.

Found Property - Nutley Street at Tapawingo Road, SW. Nov. 19, 10:30 p.m. A resident responded to the Vienna Police Station to turn in a Roadmaster brand bicycle he found buried under leaves. The bicycle will be held at the police station in the event the owner is identified.

Animal Case - 1200 Block Ware St., SW. Nov. 25, 6:26 p.m. Officer Post responded to the area for the report of a dog running loose. Upon arriving she located the dog on the front porch of a residence. She attempted to put a leash on the dog, however, it fled through a hole in the fence into the backyard. Officer Post spoke to a neighbor, who informed her; the dog lived at that residence. The hole in the fence was covered to prevent future escapes.

Open Door - 200 Block Ceret Court, SW. Nov. 25, 6:49 p.m. A resident reported a neighbor’s garage door had been standing open for several days. PFC Kiley responded and found the garage door open. The main door into the residence appeared to be secured. Nothing in the garage appeared to be out of place. The garage door was secured prior to leaving.

Arrest – Narcotics Violation - Courthouse Road at Ware St., SW. Nov. 25, 7:50 p.m. MPO Shaw responded to the area for the report of an unoccupied vehicle stopped in the intersection. While looking at the vehicle he detected the distinct odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and stated his son had been driving the vehicle when it ran out of gas. When the son returned to the vehicle MPO Shaw confronted him concerning the odor. After further interaction he located a measurable amount of marijuana in the vehicle. MPO Shaw issued a summons to the 24 year old man from John Marshall Drive, NE in Vienna for Possession of Marijuana. He was released after signing the summons.

Noise Violation - The Bey Lounge. 303 Mill St., NE. Nov. 26, 1:56 a.m. A resident reported there was loud noise emanating from the area of the Bey Lounge. Officer Post responded to the resident’s home but was unable to hear any noise from the business. Sgt. Sylmar responded to the Bey Lounge and was unable to hear any loud noise coming from the business.

Suspicious Event - 300 Block Tapawingo Road, SE. Nov. 26, 3:16 p.m. A resident reported his neighbor had been cutting tree branches and placing them on his vehicle. Officer Hylinski responded and found the discarded branches were lying next to the vehicle. After speaking with both neighbors Officer Hylinski determined this was an ongoing neighbor dispute that neither was willing to end.

Arrest – Domestic Assault - Pekay Street, SW. Nov. 26, 5:40 p.m. Officer Post responded to a residence after receiving a report that a domestic assault had occurred. Upon arriving she learned the mother and father were involved in a heated argument when the daughter attempted to intervene she was pushed by her father. Officer Post spoke with all the individuals involved and determined there was enough evidence to confirm a domestic assault had occurred. She arrested the 58 year old man from Pekay Street, SW in Vienna for Domestic Assault. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Domestic Assault. He was released on his signature. A Protective Order was also issued.

Arrest – Narcotics Violation - 200 Block Lawyers Road, NW. Nov. 27, 2:08 a.m. Officer Post was on patrol when she observed the driver of a vehicle commit a series of traffic violations. Upon her interaction with the driver she detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. After speaking with the driver she detected a measurable amount of marijuana. The driver, a 22 year old man from Metropolitan Center Drive in Springfield, Virginia was issued a summons for Possession of Marijuana. He was released after signing the summons.

Arrest – Obstruction of Justice - Maple Avenue at Branch Road, SE. Nov. 27, 12:17 p.m. PFC Tracy was on patrol when he observed a vehicle with several equipment violations. As a result of those violations he conducted a traffic stop. He was informed by the driver the he would not provide his identification and indicated he does not subscribe to any form of government nor does he recognize the officer as a government official. After several unsuccessful attempts to identify the driver, PFC Tracy was left with no other option but to place him under arrest. The 25-year-old man from Mason Bluff Drive in Burke was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Obstruction of Justice, Expired Registration, Defective Equipment, and No Operator’s License. He was held without bond.

Animal Case – Quarantine - 500 Block Heritage Lane, NW. Nov. 27, 4:00 p.m. ACO Barker responded to a residence after receiving a bite report from the Health Department. Upon speaking with the resident he learned “Albert,” the cat, had bitten the resident’s mother,

who was visiting from Florida. The resident was informed of the quarantine process and requested to quarantine Albert in her home. ACO Barker will follow up with this case.

Arrest – Warrant Service - 100 Block East St., NE. Nov. 27, 5:13 p.m. MPO Seitz was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit a traffic violation. As a result of the violation he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver and his passenger he discovered the passenger was wanted for a probation violation issued by Arlington County. MPO Seitz arrested the 25 year old woman, with no fixed address, for the violation of probation. While searching the woman, prior to placing her in his cruiser, he located illegal drug paraphernalia. The woman was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where she was searched by a Sheriff’s Deputy who located additional narcotics on her person. The woman was charged with the Probation Violation from Arlington County, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Felony by Prisoner (Possession of contraband in a prison). She was held on a $7,000 bond.

Vandalism - Amphora Restaurant, 377 Maple Ave., West. Between Nov. 27 at 9:00 p.m. and Nov. 28 at 9:00 a.m. An employee reported he returned to his vehicle, at the end of his shift, and discovered the two rear tires on his vehicle had been slashed.

Animal Case - 300 Block Tapawingo Road, SW. Nov. 27, 10:19 p.m. Several residents reported a barking dog. PFC Kiley responded to the area and located the barking dog. He determined the dog was creating a public nuisance and attempted, unsuccessfully to contact the owner. ACO Barker will follow up with this case.

Arrest – Domestic Assault - Cedar Lane, SE. Nov. 28, 12:01 a.m. PFC Kiley responded to a residence after receiving the report of a domestic assault that had occurred. After arriving he was met by the resident who stated he and his girlfriend had been involved in a heated argument that escalated when she assaulted him. PFC Kiley found injuries on the resident that were consistent with the type of assault he stated occurred. The girlfriend was uncooperative in providing her side of the incident. PFC Kiley arrested the 29 year old woman from Cedar Lane, SE in Vienna and transported her to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where she was charged with Domestic Assault. A Protective Order was also issued.

Noise Violation - The Bey Lounge, 303 Mill St., NE, Nov. 28, 12:23 a.m. A resident reported hearing loud music emanating from the Bey Lounge. MPO Nelson went to the area where the complaint was coming from and stated he could only slightly hear the bass coming from the music at the lounge. Officer Reedy responded to the Bey Lounge and only heard music emanating from the building when the door was opened to let customers in or out. A manager was informed of the complaint and agreed to turn the music down.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated - 500 Block Maple Ave., West. Nov. 28, 3:26 a.m. Officer Reedy was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit a traffic violation. As a result of that violation he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the signs of impairment. After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested the 31 year old woman from Sunset Hills Road in Reston, Virginia for Driving While Intoxicated. She was transported to the Vienna Police Station where she was given the opportunity to provide a sample of her breath for analysis. After the analysis she was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where she was charged with Driving While Intoxicated. She was held on an unsecured bond and was to be released when she was sober.

Police Service - The Vienna Police Station. 215 Center St., South. Nov. 28, 11:28 a.m. A resident responded to the Vienna Police Station to turn in unwanted ammunition for destruction.

Arrest – Trespassing - Waters Field, 130 Cherry St., SE. Nov. 28, 3 p.m. MPO Seitz was on patrol when he observed two juveniles carrying a football across Cherry Street and onto Waters Field. The field is under construction with signage indicating it is closed until the repairs are complete. Prior to allowing the juveniles to engage in any fun activity he informed them they were trespassing. After verbally counselling the juveniles on their actions, their parents were contacted and responded to the area to take them home.

Vandalism - 1100 Block Drake St., SW. Between Nov. 28 at 3 p.m. and Nov. 30 at 7:10 a.m. A resident reported her living room window and garage door had been the victims of an egging.

Domestic Dispute - Tapawingo Road, SW. Nov. 28, 4:28 p.m. PFC Tracy responded to a residence after receiving the report of a domestic dispute occurring. After arriving he spoke with both individuals a boyfriend and girlfriend. They stated the argument had been verbal in nature only. The two agreed to cease from arguing in front of the children and would stay in separate rooms for the remainder of the night.

Destruction of Property - Just Tires, 352 Maple Avenue, East. Between Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. and Nov. 30 at 9 a.m. An employee reported that a manhole cover, several business owned bushes and several Town of Vienna owned bushes had been damaged. The damage appears to have been made by a vehicle. The case is being investigated.

Noise Violation - The Bey Lounge, 303 Maple Avenue, NE. Nov. 28, 11:22 p.m. A resident reported loud music could be heard in their backyard emanating from the Bey Lounge. PFC Kiley responded to the Bey Lounge and spoke with an employee who agreed to turn down the music.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated - 400 Block Courthouse Road, SW. Nov. 29, 1:02 a.m. PFC Kiley was on patrol when he observed a vehicle with an equipment violation. As a result of that violation he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the signs of possible impairment. After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested the 33-year-old woman from Periwinkle Way in Severn, Maryland for Driving While Intoxicated. The woman was transported to the Vienna Police Station where she was given the opportunity to provide a sample of her breath for analysis. After the analysis she was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where she was charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

Noise Complaint - The Bey Lounge, 303 Mill St., NE. Nov. 29, 1:08 a.m. A resident reported loud music could be heard in her backyard emanating from the Bey Lounge. MPO Nelson responded to the Bey Lounge and spoke with an employee who agreed to turn the music down to an acceptable level.

Destruction of Property - Amphora Restaurant 377 Maple Avenue, West. Nov. 29 between 2:30 a.m. and 3:40 a.m. Three separate groups of diners exited the restaurant and discovered the rear tires on three of their vehicles had been slashed. This case is believed to be related to an incident on Nov. 27 at the same location.

Vandalism - 1100 Block Ware St., SW. Nov. 29, 9 a.m. A resident reported that during the night his house had been the victim of an egging.

Grand Larceny - 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE. Between Nov. 29 at 11 p.m. and Nov. 30 at 8 a.m. A resident reported her ex-boyfriend had been at her apartment, banging on the door in an attempt to get her to let him in. She stated she refused to let him in, after which he left. She later discovered a children’s tablet computer had gone missing from her vehicle. This case is being investigated.

Found Property - Chipotle. 213 Maple Avenue, East. Nov. 30, 12:25 p.m. Officer Post was returning to her vehicle and happened upon a Debit Mastercard lying on the ground. The card will be held at the police station while she attempts to contact the owner.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated/Hit and Run - Maple Avenue at East Street, NE. Nov. 30, 7:03 p.m. Officer Herrera responded to the area after receiving a report of an accident with injuries. Upon arrival at the scene he learned the driver of the vehicle had hit another vehicle while traveling westbound in the 800 block of Maple Avenue, East. The driver continued until the vehicle left the roadway and came to a stop after striking a tree. The driver of the vehicle that was struck informed Officer Herrera of the Hit and Run incident. After speaking with the driver of the striking vehicle Officer Herrera determined that he may have been impaired. The driver was unable to perform any field sobriety tests as a result of injuries suffered in the crash. The driver was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for his injuries. After receiving treatment he was given the opportunity, which he refused, to provide a sample of his blood for analysis. Officer Herrera transported the 28-year-old man from Woodley Place in Falls Church, Virginia to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal to Submit to a Breath/Blood Test and Hit and Run. He was to be released when he was sober.

Fraud - 1100 Block Kings Way Court, SW. Dec. 1, 10:15 a.m. A resident reported she was contacted by an employee of Saks Fifth Avenue. The employee wanted to verify an online purchase for several thousand dollars. The resident stated the order was made without her knowledge and was subsequently cancelled. This case is being investigated.

Threats - The Cedar Lane School, 101 Cedar Lane, SW. Dec. 1, 1:30 p.m. An employee reported a student had told fellow students he was going to bring a weapon to school. The student’s parents were contacted and stated he did not have access to any weapons. The school will handle this matter internally.

Medical Case - Heritage Lane, NW. Dec. 1, 8:09 p.m. A resident reported she was worried about the welfare of her mother. Officer Tremont responded and spoke with the mother who informed him she was not in any danger.

Animal Case - 400 Block Roland St., SW. Dec. 1, 10:01 p.m. A resident reported an unknown man arrived at her residence and handed over a small black Terrier dog, dressed in a “DC United” sweater. The man stated he found the dog wandering in the roadway on Nutley Street, SW. Officer Hylinski responded and took the dog to the Hope Center where an employee was able to determine the owner of the dog. The owner was contacted and stated he was driving on Nutley Street when “Minx” jumped out of the window. He stated he would respond to the Hope Center to pick up Minx.

Grand Larceny - 300 Block Broadleaf Drive, NE. Between Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. and Dec. 3 at 7:45 a.m. A resident reported someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole several handguns. This case is being investigated.

Suspicious Event - 300 Block Broadleaf Drive, NE. Between Dec. 2 at 8:30 p.m. and Dec. 3 at 8:30 a.m. A resident went to her unlocked vehicle and noticed items in her vehicle were out of place. She stated nothing appeared to have been taken. Note to Citizens: Please remove all valuables from an unattended vehicle and most importantly, lock the vehicle doors.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated - Chain Bridge Road at Horse Shoe Drive, SE. Dec. 3, 1:46 a.m. Officer Reedy was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit a series of traffic violations. As a result of those violations he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the signs of possible impairment. After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested the 31 year old man from Haxall Court in Sterling for Driving While Intoxicated. The man was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. After the analysis he was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He was held to be released when he was sober.

Animal Case - Anita’s Restaurant, 521 Maple Avenue, East. Dec. 3, 9 a.m. A citizen reported a female was behind the restaurant with a dog that appeared to be dead. ACO Barker responded and was informed by the woman that she had been on a walk with her dog “Amy”. She stated when they stopped behind Anita’s Amy went into distress and stopped breathing. By chance an employee of the Hope Center was in the restaurant and went to assist Amy but sadly Amy had already passed. The owner stated Amy was very old and her health had been declining recently.

Destruction of Property - 200 Block Walnut Lane, NW. Dec. 3 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. A resident reported someone had cut down a large tree in her backyard. She had no idea why or who would cut down the tree.

Unlawful Entry - 100 Block Ross Drive, SW. Dec. 3, 10:28 a.m. A resident reported her ex-boyfriend had shown up at her house and was attempting to gain entry without her permission. The resident secured herself in her bedroom while waiting for the police to arrive. When the officers arrived the boyfriend had already left the area. The resident stated he gained entry and she could hear him in the kitchen, where she found an envelope he left behind. MPO Shaver contacted the ex-boyfriend who confirmed he was at the residence. He was informed he was not permitted to enter the residence without permission. The resident did not wish to pursue charges.

Arrest – Prescription Fraud - Walgreens Pharmacy, 225 Maple Avenue, East. Dec. 3, 12:36 p.m. An employee reported a customer had come to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription that the pharmacist determined was fraudulent. MPO Seitz responded and located the customer and attempted to identify him, however, he provided fraudulent identification. The 48-year-old man from Mirimar Street in San Diego, Ca. was arrested and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Fraudulent Use of a Driver’s License, and two counts of Prescription Fraud. He was released on his signature.

Crashes

300 Block Maple Avenue, West - Nov. 25, 8:45 a.m. The driver of the first vehicle was traveling eastbound on Maple Avenue, West. The driver of the second vehicle was traveling westbound and attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot and collided with the first vehicle.

200 Block Maple Avenue, West, Nov. 25, 5:58 p.m. The drivers of two vehicles were traveling eastbound on Maple Avenue, West. Both drivers stopped due to a red traffic signal. The driver of the second vehicle thought the driver of the first vehicle had started to move and pulled forward rear-ending the first vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a summons for Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

Maple Avenue at Branch Road, SE. Nov. 27, 12:23 p.m. The drivers of two vehicles were traveling eastbound on Maple Avenue, SE in the same lane of travel. The driver of the first vehicle stopped due to a red traffic signal and was rear-ended by the second vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a summons for Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

George Street near Cottage Street, SW - Nov. 28, 8 a.m. A resident returned to his legally parked vehicle and discovered damage to the right front corner. The driver of the striking vehicle did not stop to exchange information.

Maple Avenue near Lawyers Road, NW. Nov. 29, 2:13 p.m. The drivers of two vehicles were traveling westbound on Maple Avenue, NW in the same lane of travel. The driver of the first vehicle stopped due to a red traffic signal and was rear-ended by the second vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a summons for Following Too Close.

Maple Avenue at Park Street, East. Nov. 30, 3:29 p.m. The drivers of two vehicles were traveling eastbound on Maple Avenue, East in the same lane of travel. Both drivers stopped due to the red traffic signal. When the left turn arrow turned green the driver of the second vehicle attempted to pull around the first vehicle and a collision occurred.

Maple Avenue near Wade Hampton Drive, SW. Nov. 30, 5:02 p.m. The drivers of two vehicles were traveling westbound on Maple Avenue, SW in the same lane of travel. The driver of the first vehicle stopped and was rear-ended by the second vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a summons for Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

Holmes Drive at Lawyers Road, NW. Nov. 30, 5:23 p.m. The drivers of two vehicles were traveling westbound on Holmes Drive, NW in the same lane of travel. Both drivers stopped, the driver of the second vehicle claims the driver of the first vehicle rolled backwards into his vehicle.

Church Street at Park Street, NE. Nov. 30, 6:01 p.m. The drivers of two vehicles were traveling eastbound on Church Street, NE in the same lane of travel. The driver of the first vehicle slowed due to heavy traffic and was rear-ended by the second vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a summons for Following too Close.

Nutley Street at Maple Avenue. Dec. 1, 8:00 a.m. The drivers of two vehicles were traveling northbound on Nutley Street, SW in adjacent lanes. Both vehicles stopped in the right and left turn lanes for the red traffic signal. When the signal turned green both drivers proceeded to make left turns. The driver of the vehicle in the rightmost lane over accelerated and collided with the vehicle in the leftmost lane.

Maple Avenue near Pleasant Street, SW. Dec. 1, 12:44 p.m. The drivers of two vehicles were traveling eastbound on Maple Avenue, SW in the same lane of travel. The driver of the first vehicle stopped and was rear-ended by the second vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a summons for Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

Beulah Road at Ayr Hill Avenue, NE. Dec. 1, 5:51 p.m. The driver of the first vehicle was traveling southbound on Beulah Road, NE approaching the intersection with Ayr Hill Avenue. The driver of the second vehicle was traveling westbound on Ayr Hill Avenue, stopped at the Stop Sign then proceeded into the intersection, colliding with the first vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a summons for Failure to Obey a Stop Sign.

Maple Avenue at Beulah Road, East. Dec. 02, 9:02 a.m. The drivers of two vehicles were traveling eastbound on Maple Avenue, East in the same lane of traffic. The driver of the first vehicle stopped due to heavy traffic and was rear-ended by the second vehicle.

100 Block Maple Avenue, West. Dec. 03 2:29 p.m. The owner of a legally parked vehicle returned to her vehicle and discovered it had been struck by an unknown vehicle.

Church Street near Lawyers Road, NW. Dec. 3, 3:43 p.m. The driver of a vehicle was attempting to make a U-Turn and struck a legally parked vehicle. The driver of the striking vehicle was issued summonses for Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention and No Operator’s License in Possession.
