Strand To Lead Unified Prevention Coalition

Whitney Strand has been appointed as the new executive director of the Unified Prevention Coalition of Fairfax County (UPC). Strand has served as program director of the countywide coalition that works to prevent substance abuse and keep Fairfax County youth and young adults safe and drug free.

Working alongside Deputy Executive Director Diane Eckert, Strand leads the non-profit organization that includes more than 60 community partners and an award-winning high school Youth Council.

Before joining UPC last fall, Strand had served as coordinator of the READY Coalition in Arlington County, working to prevent substance abuse. Strand, who has a master’s degree in public health from Florida State University, also previously was program manager of patient services for the area chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America and worked for the community affairs division of the Inova Health System. She also served as the associate board president of Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia.
