Arlington County Fire Chief James Schwartz will take a new position of deputy county manager, responsible for the county’s public safety agencies, including Arlington County Fire Department, Arlington County Police Department , the Office of Emergency Management, which includes the Emergency Communications Center , and for the Department of Technology Services. Schwartz was appointed chief of the Arlington County Fire Department in June 2004; he has been part of the fire department since 1984.
Acting Arlington County Manager Mark Schwartz made the appointment, which is effective Sept. 8. Schwartz also named Arlington County Fire Department Assistant Chief Joseph Reshetar as acting fire chief, effective Sept. 8.
Reshetar joined the fire department in 1985. For the last three years, he has served as assistant chief for operations.
Arlington County will conduct a national recruitment for the new fire chief; the recruiting process will begin this fall.
