More than 100 people attended the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department’s (VVFD) pancake breakfast on Saturday, Sept. 19. The menu featured piping-hot pancakes, bacon, sausage, orange juice and coffee, and the event was a fundraiser for the department.
“It’s to purchase a medic unit for the station,” said Joan Dempsey, president of the fire department’s auxiliary. “It costs about $300,000; we’re a volunteer fire department and own all our equipment, building and land.” But besides raising money, she said, the pancake breakfast also “gets the community involved with what we do.”
The fire department’s next pancake breakfast is slated for Dec. 13, and Santa Claus will be a special guest for the children. Anyone who’d like to donate toward the medic unit or join the fire department or its auxiliary may go to www.vvfd.org.
