Vienna Mayor's Walking Group

Vienna residents are welcome to join Mayor Laurie DiRocco's walking group. It meets every Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Town Hall, 127 Center St. S. The walks are about 2.5 to 3 miles, with a different route every Friday. The next walk is Oct 3.

New Human Resources Director

Magali (Maggie) Kain is the Town of Vienna’s new Director of Human Resources. “Maggie’s experience and knowledge represent a gifted and hard-working professional,” said Town Manager Mercury Payton. “She brings another collaborative, highly talented leader to help guide the Town of Vienna into the future.”

Lawyers/Blair Crosswalk Approved

The Vienna Town Council on Sept. 22 gave the go ahead to put in a crosswalk across Lawyers Road N.W. at Blair Road N.W., plus a lighted crossing sign. It did so on the recommendation of the Transportation Safety Commission, and the Council members agreed not to spend more than $15,000 on this project.

“A lot of children use this crosswalk,” said Public Works Director Dennis Johnson.

“This is a great improvement for that area,” added Councilwoman Carey Sienicki. “Crossing there with children is a harrowing experience, and it’s a long distance to the next crosswalk.”

AAUW to Discuss ‘Busy Lives’

The American Association of University Women Vienna area branch is hosting a Tuesday, Oct. 14 meeting at 7 p.m. at Patrick Henry Library's meeting room (101 Maple Avenue East) in Vienna. Janette Muir, GMU Associate Provost, is the guest speaker who will discuss "Balance in our Busy Lives." All are welcome. For general information contact 703-200-7806

Vienna Farmers Market

The Vienna Farmers Market is held Saturdays, from 8 a.m.-noon, in the Faith Baptist Church parking lot at 301 Center Street S. It will remain open during the construction on Center Street. Customers may access the market via Courthouse Road to Locust Street or via Park Street to Cherry Street.

Oakton Farmers Market

The Oakton Farmers Market is held Saturdays, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at Unity of Fairfax Church, 2854 Hunter Mill Road in Oakton.

Vehicle License Fees

The Town of Vienna’s Vehicle License Fee is due Oct. 6. Bills were mailed to residents beginning early September; anyone who has not receive a bill should call the Vienna Vehicle License Hotline, 703-255-5735, and leave a message.

Town residents pay personal property tax to Fairfax County and a Vehicle License Fee to the Town. Vienna Vehicle License Fees are $33/car and $18/motorcycle. Those receiving a personal property tax bill from the county, with a county Vehicle License Fee charge, may not owe this charge to the county. Columbus Day Plans

Town of Vienna offices will be closed Monday, Oct. 13, in observance of Columbus Day. The Vienna Community Center will be open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; no classes or drop-in programs will be held. Refuse collection will operate as normal. Public safety services will not be impacted.

Police, Fire Games Help Needed

The 2015 World Police and Fire Games will need upwards of 3,000 people to take on a wide variety of roles across the National Capital Region. These include welcoming visitors, transporting athletes, joining the medical team, assisting sports coordinators, helping out behind the scenes on the technology team.
