Girl Scout Alison (Aly) Luckett of Vienna, an 11th grader at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, coordinated a Self-Defense Workshop that was presented by the Fairfax County Police. Last Saturday, almost 60 Girl Scouts attended a four-hour Self-Defense Workshop held at the Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy.
Spurred by the statistic that 1 in 5 college women have been victims of sexual assault or attempted sexual assault, Luckett reached out to the Fairfax County Police who agreed to provide the Self-Defense Workshop.
Master Police Officer Peter Davily gave a power point presentation that included tips on how to avoid becoming victims of sexual violence. Then, Davily and other police instructors provided hands-on training that included demonstrating and teaching some defensive strategies and tactics. Luckett has received the Girl Scout Gold, Silver, Silver Trefoil and Bronze Awards.
