Chesterbrook Woods Citizen’s Association (CWCA), a neighborhood association of residents who live in the 530+ homes in the Chesterbrook Woods community, recently adopted a Contractor Pledge for Tree, Earth and Soil Protection. CWCA embarked on this initiative to help preserve neighborhood trees. To develop the pledge, Neil Ende, Chair of the CWCA Environmental Committee, reached out to Larry Weinberg, Founder of BOWA, which specializes in the design and construction of luxury renovations and is known for its environmentally responsible building practices. Doug Horgan, BOWA’s VP of Best Practices and a nationally recognized authority on green building and construction quality, worked closely with Ende to develop a guideline that is practical from a contractor’s perspective, as well as respectful of the natural surroundings the neighbors have come to love. Weinberg noted that “When Chesterbrook Woods asked us for assistance in developing a standard for their neighborhood, we welcomed the opportunity to lend our expertise to a community that has served us well over the past 25 years.” CWCA has initiated an outreach program to encourage local builders to sign the pledge. Builders who sign and adhere to the pledge will appear on a preferred contractor’s list available to community members. CWCA is delighted to have BOWA as the first builder to sign the pledge. A copy of the pledge is available at http://www.chesterbrookwoods.org.
