When the Rotary Club of Vienna passed the torch from the 2013-14 “leadership team” to the 2014-15 “leadership team,” it did so in style.

On June 19 at the Grand Atrium in Dunn Loring, Vienna Rotary hosted a banquet and open bar recognizing the achievements of 2013-14 Rotarians, and installing and welcoming the 2014-15 leadership team.

Awards were handed out to Paul Harris Fellows Lisa Escoto, Mark Rogoff, and Greg Bernhard. Master of Ceremonies Larry Warren presented a trophy gavel and plaque to outgoing president Ron Balderson. Rotary District 7610 Assistant Governor Scott Didericksen introduced incoming president Kelvin Pierce. Pierce acknowledged he was “shy” when he first joined the Vienna Rotary in 2009, but, he said, he was welcomed and embraced. “Giving back just feels good,” Pierce said. “It changed my life.”

Meetings secretary Ted Welch was voted by Rotary’s past presidents as Rotarian of the Year, and was awarded an inscribed plaque.

For her work year-round as “general chair” of ViVa! Vienna!, Kathleen Miller was honored with the “Service Above Self” award. Miller serves as chair of the “New Generations” committee, as well.

Yasmine Bonilla was voted “New Rotarian of the Year” for her dedication and efforts to bring new members in and was acknowledged as a Paul Harris Fellow.

Rotary clubs focus on club, vocational, community, international, and youth service around the world.
