Although it’s open all year round, the Mount Vernon RECenter is perfect for the winter months.
With a 25-meter heated indoor pool, a spa, and a large ice arena, the RECenter is a winter paradise for those looking for some recreation and a refuge from any future Polar Vortexes.
Membership passes are also discounted until Feb. 14, with a 15 percent discount on four- and 12-month passes.
The RECenter’s ice arena, the only one in the area that is publicly owned, includes public sessions, as well as Adults Only, Rock 'n Blades DJ sessions, and Stick & Puck and Pick-up Hockey, specialized sessions for adults, skating enthusiasts and hockey players.
Beginners of all ages and abilities can take a learn-to-skate class, as well as ice-hockey classes.
A Mount Vernon RECenter membership pass includes access to the center’s 1,500 square foot fitness center, as well as the Drop-In Group Fitness Program, which includes group Zumba, yoga, and Pilates.
“I’ve always loved ice-skating and just hanging out at the RECenter,” said Daniel Singer, who used to live in the Mount Vernon area but has recently moved to Springfield. “I may try one of the classes as a New Year’s Resolution.”
