MCC also officially christened a second Resolute racing shell named after Christopher C. Gordon, the just retired longtime head coach for McLean High’s women’s crew team. During his 17-year tenure, Chris Gordon was instrumental in the growth of the club and coached more than 1,700 rowers, including two Olympic champions. More than 100 rowers, crew alumnae, parents and friends gathered in the McLean High School gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 10 for the christening of the newly acquired Resolute racing shell named in honor of Ken Meade, father of Cammie and Allie Meade who rowed for the McLean High School Crew Club (MCC).

Past MCC President (2008-2010) John Smith talked about Ken (and wife Kathy’s) support for the McLean crew team during the years the Meade daughters rowed for McLean High. During the seven-year period that one or both daughters were rowing, Ken and Kathy Meade were always there to help the team in any way and were there to cheer on the crew team during the regattas and other races.

Smith said it was fitting to have Ken’s name on the boat because it would cause future generations to ask “Who was Ken Meade” and it would be an opportunity to talk about what a great guy Ken was and how much he and wife Kathy meant to the crew team. Ken Meade, an attorney, devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle died in an accident in 2013. Friends and family appreciated this opportunity to memorialize him.
