The West Potomac Rifle Team won its third consecutive match on Saturday, to improve its record to 3-1.
On Jan. 14, the team defeated The Landon School by a score of 1083 to 1074. The team scores were Lindsay Paul (285), Andy Knight (274), Jack Apperson and Grayson Wheeler with scores of 262.
On Jan. 18, the team surpassed Washington & Lee High School 1108 to 1060. The team of Lindsay Paul (286), Jack Apperson (282), Andy Knight (276) and Connor McPherson (264) exceeded the 1100 mark for the first time in school history and set a new school record with their score of 1108. Both Lindsay and Jack fired a perfect score of 100 in the prone phase of the match.
At the match on Jan. 25, the team outscored Lake Braddock 1086 to 1060. The team was led by Lindsay Paul (282), Jack Apperson (276), Chris Quinn (268) and Grayson Wheeler (260). Lindsay, a senior co-captain, was the overall high scorer in all three matches.
Additional team members participating in the matches were Dominic Mancini and Joey Africano.
According to Lindsay, “We are having the team’s best season. Everybody is shooting very well, especially the new shooters.”
The team competes in three position precision air rifle matches, firing 10 shots in each of the prone, standing and kneeling positions for a potential score of 300. During this period all team members have achieved new personal best scores. The team has five more matches prior to the regional championships.
