Inova’s Mount Vernon Hospital medical director, Dr. Donald Brideau, is the hospital’s interim CEO. Former administrator Barbara Doyle left the position to return to her home in Boston, Mass.
Brideau is a candidate for the position and a part of the nation-wide screening and selection process.
Q. In 2013, what certifications, recognition, and awards did Inova Mount Vernon Hospital acquire?
The Inova Joint Replacement Center once again was recertified earning a Gold Seal of Approval for outstanding care in hip and knee replacement from the Joint Commission. Last year the center performed over 2,000 joint replacements. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services named Inova Mount Vernon Hospital’s Joint Replacement Center as one of the top hospitals to perform joint replacement in the United States.
Earned recertification as a Primary Stroke Center from the Joint Commission.
The Inova Breast Care Institute received a 3-year accreditation for breast care from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.
Gold Seal of Accreditation from the American College of Radiology for Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
Nationally, the Inova Mount Vernon Hospital earned the distinction of Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for its achievement in: heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care.
Q. In 2013 what was the magnitude and type of services the hospital provided?
A. Outpatient visits (non ED): 44,176; Inpatient (admits) visits: 8,624; ED visits: 37,359; Joint Replacement Surgeries: 2,070; Rehab Admissions: 1,417; Surgical Procedures: OP: 1,795; IP Surgeries: 2,733.
Q. For this year what are the major projects you have planned?
A. * The construction Tower expansion and the new Operating Rooms at the hospital are scheduled to be open in the fall of 2014.
Construction of a new Emergency Department is scheduled to begin the last quarter of 2014.
The Ambulatory Surgery Center at the Inova Health Plex in Lorton is scheduled to open in June 2014.
