South Lakes field hockey coach Jessica Salo said the Seahawks, who have nine sophomores and two freshmen listed on their roster, could experience a rebuilding year in 2014.
Then again, maybe they won’t.
South Lakes dropped its Under the Lights tournament opener to Robinson 1-0 on Monday at Lee High School after the Rams scored a goal in the closing minutes. Later that night, the Seahawks responded with a 7-1 victory over Stuart.
“I thought we were really aggressive,” Salo said after the loss to Robinson. “… We’ve got a young team so it might be a bit of a rebuilding year. But, actually, I’m really happy with what I’ve seen so far, so I don’t know that it will end up being a rebuilding year for us.”
Senior midfielder Megan Greatorex had a big night against Stuart, scoring four goals. Senior Aly McCarty, and sophomores Emily Lockwood and Seretha McHugh each had one.
Greatorex, McCarty and sophomore Jordan Majoros are expected to be three of the Seahawks’ top players.
“They’re really ball hungry,” Salo said. “They’re very aggressive. They always give 110 percent.”
Freshman Jesse Lynch and sophomore Meredith Brooker are also expected to be key contributors.
South Lakes will travel to face Falls Church at 7:30 p.m. tonight , and will host Herndon on Sept. 3.
