ArtSpace Herndon’s “It’s a Matter of Color” exhibit will run from June 4 through July 7 with an artists reception on Saturday, June 15 from 3 to 5 p.m. The show features watercolors and oils by artists Catherine Hillis and Jill Poyerd. During the reception, Jill Poyerd will give a talk about how artists use color to influence mood and feeling in their work. Catherine Hillis will bring a little bit of Loudoun to the heart of Herndon through a watercolor demonstration. Singer-songwriter and guitarist Tien will perform Brazilian Jazz throughout the reception.
Poyerd is an award-winning artist whose work can be found in private collections across the country. She exhibits extensively throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, has been featured in numerous one-woman shows, is a requested watercolor instructor, and has curated several group exhibitions in the Washington D.C. metro area. Poyerd is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, Baltimore Watercolor Society, Virginia Watercolor Society, and Pennsylvania Watercolor Society.
Hillis has earned six signature memberships in watercolor organizations throughout the country. She is also an elected member of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters. Her work has been featured in many publications, including American Artist Magazine, Elan Magazine, The Washington Post and Best of Virginia. Hillis' watercolor class students who will exhibit in the Sapphire Gallery are: Bessie Bartell, Herb Basik, Judith Donbergs, Lori Green, Janet Grissett, Suzanne Lohr Sliger, Colette Lunetta, Dale McGrath, Nancy Pitcher, Sarah Vierra, Sharon Walker, Shirley Whiteman, Patricia Woofter and Louann Wright.
