10th District Academy Day Set for April 6

Area students interested in attending one of the nation’s service academies are encouraged to attend the 10th District Academy Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, at the Loudoun County School Board Office in Ashburn, Rep. Frank Wolf (R-10) announced.

Representatives from the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy will be in attendance. In addition, representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard, Virginia Military Institute and the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets have been invited.

Students and parents will have the opportunity to meet with these representatives, as well as participate in panel discussions.

The 2018 Academy nomination season is now “open” for inquiries from students considering attending one of the U.S. service academies. Town-wide Spring Clean-up Week of April 22-26

The annual spring clean-up will take place throughout the Town of Herndon during the week of April 22-26. Spring clean-up provides an opportunity for residents to place large or bulky items curbside for pick-up. Items can include:

  • Appliances (remove doors)

  • Furniture

  • Vehicle parts and plumbing fixtures (all under 50 lbs.)

  • Tires (maximum two per household)

  • Limited amount of building materials (approximately 1 cubic yard, lengths not to exceed 4 feet)

Yard waste, auto parts in excess of 50 lbs., large quantities of building materials and household hazardous waste will not be picked up.

Items should be placed curbside by 7 a.m. on your trash day only, but not earlier than 24 hours prior to pick-up.
