Four unoccupied vehicles suffered significant damage when they were struck by a drunk driver at the intersection of Payne and Wilkes streets in Old Town on the evening of June 5.
“She [the driver] was out of control,” said one resident who asked to remain anonymous. “It's a miracle no one was seriously hurt.”
At 10:37 p.m., a female driver was heading south on the 400 block of S. Payne Street when she lost control of her vehicle and struck several cars that were parked on the east side of the street. A Mazda was hit with such force it was pushed up onto the curb, uprooted a tree and sent crashing into another vehicle.
“I think she was having a fight with her passenger,” said the resident. “I can't imagine what either of them was thinking to let her behind the wheel in her condition.”
The driver was charged with DUI and taken to Inova Alexandria hospital where she received medical treatment.
