Six artists from the Workhouse Associate Artists (WAA) were chosen as People's Choice Award winners for their current exhibition in the Vulcan gallery (Building W16) at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton. The winners were chosen during the Workhouse's monthly 2nd Saturday Art Walk on Jan. 12. The winners are Alisha Anderson (first place), Jackie France (second place), and a three way for third tie among Bonnie Ferguson Butler, Kathy Strauss and Maria Bennett Hock. Alisha Anderson is an award-winning photographer and juried member of the Workhouse Associate Artists at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton. She is also a member of the Prince William Arts Society and the Manassas Art Guild, and owner of Stairwell Gallery Photography. Bonnie Ferguson Butler is an award-winning painter and photographer, who exhibits in W-16 at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton and at The Loft Gallery in Occoquan. Kathy Strauss lives in Lake Ridge, Va. She loves telling stories through her photography and art. Her design background gives her imagery a distinct clean style that brings each image to life. Composing each shot with precision and harmony—sensitive to graphic composition and each of the core design principles—she’s always looking at what makes each scene spark and how to connect the viewer to the piece.
Maria Bennett Hock is an award-winning artist, who exhibits in W-16 at the Workhouse Arts Center and in various shows nationally. Her primary loves are portraits and figurative pieces.
