Brief: Volunteers Needed To Tutor Teens, Elementary Students

— AHC Inc, a nonprofit affordable housing organization based in Arlington, needs at least 100 volunteers to tutor teens in the evening or to work with elementary students in the afternoon.

AHC has provided a range of educational programs for low-income children living in AHC’s affordable apartment communities for nearly two decades.

AHC’s educational programs begin Monday, Sept. 17. Volunteer opportunities include:

  • After-school volunteers are needed from 3-6 p.m., Monday through Thursday to help with homework, supervise games and activities, and read with children. Volunteers are welcome to join us for as much time as is convenient — one hour once a week to 3 hours every day.

  • Teen tutors are needed for 1.5 hours once a week between 6-8 p.m. to help middle and high school students with homework, and to be role models and mentors. Tutors are paired with one student throughout the school year to help youngsters and volunteers build a personal relationship.

AHC’s educational programs are offered at six community centers in Arlington, two are near Metro stops.
