Alexandria The Torpedo Factory Art Center’s Target Gallery presents 25, which opens Sept. 8 and runs through Sept. 30. The exhibition is in celebration of the gallery’s 25th anniversary since opening in 1987 as the Torpedo Factory’s national exhibition space.
The all-media exhibition, which features work that responds to world events that have occurred over the past 25 years, will showcase 33 works by 27 artists from across the country. The artists are: Joy Garnett (NY), Roscoe Wilson (OH), Douglas Moulden (MD), Angelique Brickner (SC), Joshua Emery (PA), Laurel Garcia Colvin (NY), Suzanne Coley (MD), Joni Gruber (AL), Margi Weir (MI), Linda Colsh (Belgium), Colleen Ellis (MA), Anne LaFond (NY), Kazaan Viveiros (VA), Web Bryant (VA), Paula D Everitt (PA), Shelley Lowenstein (MD), David Beers (MD), Angelika Piwowarczyk (IL), Daniel Kaufmann (WV), Miyuki Akai Cook (WV), Andrea Barnes (MD), Lee Sido (IL), Joseph and Katie Thompson (SC), Deborah Rockman (MI), Jan Rowland (MD), Tim Steele (SD) and Phillip Chan (CA). A special catalog will accompany this exhibition.
Our juror for this exhibition was J.W. Mahoney, a writer and curator based in Virginia. A graduate of Harvard University, he has exhibited his work in the United States for more than 25 years. He is currently the Washington Corresponding Editor for Art in America, a contributing editor for the New Art Examiner and a professor in the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Maryland.
The Target Gallery is the national exhibition space of the Torpedo Factory Art Center, a 501(c)(3) organization. The gallery promotes high standards of art by continuously exploring new ideas through the visual media in a schedule of national and international exhibitions. The gallery is located on the waterfront in Old Town Alexandria. The gallery is open daily from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and until 9 p.m. on Thursdays.
