Alexandria Virginia American Water has started water main upgrades on South Lee Street and Lee Court in Alexandria to enhance water quality, improve service reliability and increase flows for fire protection. The cost of the water system improvements is approximately $265,000.
Beginning this week, Virginia American Water will replace approximately 800 feet of six-inch pipeline along South Lee Street between Jefferson Street and Jones Point Park with a new eight-inch water main. In addition, crews will replace 160 feet of two-inch water main on Lee Court with a new six-inch main. Portions of the existing pipes date back to 1950.
Crews will work weekdays between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. The project is expected to last five months. During the project, some residents of South Lee Street and Lee Court might experience temporary inconvenience as crews work near their homes. At least one lane of traffic on South Lee Street and Lee Court will remain open while the project is underway.
