Voting Open for RCC Board

The Preference Poll seeks community guidance to fill three three-year positions on the Reston Community Center Board of Governors. Voting began officially on Sept. 28. Ballots were mailed to each property in small district 5, and may be submitted via mail, online, or at either RCC location.

This year's slate of candidates includes one incumbent, William G. Bouie, and two new candidates, Lisa Ehrhardt and Gerald Zavala. The candidates' statements are available on the RCC website; voters are urged to review all statements.

Mail-in ballots must be received at the counting agent address no later than 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11. Walk-in and online ballots must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12.

Anthem Great Pumpkin 5k Celebrates Healthy Living

The fourth annual Anthem Great Pumpkin 5k, sponsored by Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 8:15 a.m. at the Reston Town Center. Three race events help to promote healthy lifestyle choices for all ages and fitness levels. This year adults can also show their Halloween spirit by participating in the Pumpkin Smash Mile. Best of Reston Nominations Accepted

The Best of Reston honors businesses, organizations, and individuals who have put forth tremendous effort in their commitment to community service and improving the lives of others in the greater Reston area. The annual event is produced in partnership by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith. Nominations for the 2013 awards are now being accepted in five award categories: Individual Community Member, Civic/Community Organization, Small Business Leader (2-100 employees), Corporate Business Leader (101+ employees), and new this year the Vade Bolton-Ann Rodriguez Young Leaders – Entrusting Our Community’s Future Award.

Ann Rodriguez and Vade Bolton shared a special passion and gift for mentoring and inspiring young people and future leaders. While their volunteerism took different paths, Ann and Vade inspired all who knew them with the joy and enthusiasm they brought to their volunteer work, and the lives of those they touched.

Nominations may be submitted by individuals and organizations. The nomination forms and a list of previous award winners can be found online at www.restoninterfaith.org or www.restonchamber.org or printed copies are available at both organizations offices. Nominations close at 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012.

Reston Interfaith and the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce have announced Robert E. Simon as the chair of the 22nd Annual Best of Reston Awards for Community Service on April 11, 2013.
