Alexandria — In celebration of Citizenship Day, 26 Virginia residents took the oath of allegiance to the United States and were sworn in as citizens on Sept. 11 in Market Square. Senior advisor to President Barack Obama Valerie Jarrett delivered the keynote address. The 26 new citizens hail from 20 different countries. Jarrett noted that all continents except for Antarctica were represented in the audience.
