Messiah United Methodist Church invites you to become a part of God’s plan for changing the world by helping us feed 50,000 people in five hours on Sunday, May 20, as part of the United Methodist "Change the World Weekend." Volunteers of all ages (including children) are needed to help package 50,000 meals for Stop Hunger Now, an agency that delivers food to some of the poorest people in the world. Want to help us package meals on May 20? Sign up at www.messiahumc.org.
Stop Hunger Now was established in 1998 with the mission to end hunger in our lifetime by providing food and life-saving aid to the world’s most vulnerable and by creating a global commitment to mobilize the necessary resources. Stop Hunger Now’s meal-packaging program is volunteer-based and coordinates the streamlined packaging of highly nutritious dehydrated meals comprised of rice, soy, vegetables, flavoring and 21 essential vitamins and minerals. The meals are easily transported to crisis-burdened areas or supplied to school feeding programs around the world. The meals only cost $0.25 per meal to create and each package contains six meals.
Worship services held during the period from April 22 through May 27 will explore practical ways that each of us can make a difference in the world, using the themes of Max Lucado’s popular book "Outlive Your Life: You Were Made to Make a Difference." Worship services are held each Sunday morning at 8:15, 9:30 and 11 a.m. In addition, small groups held at various times and days of the week, will offer participants the opportunity to explore the themes of Lucado’s "Outlive Your Life" book at a deeper level. Those interested in joining a small group are encouraged to contact Robin Ringler, Director of Discipling Ministries, at rringler@messiahumc.org or 703-569-9862, ext. 114, who will assist you in finding a small group that is just right for you.
