Mount Vernon junior goalkeeper Lucas Belanger, an all-state performer, has left the boys’ soccer team, head coach Robert Garza said Monday, March 19.
Belanger informed Garza he wanted to focus on preparing to play soccer at the collegiate level, the coach said.
“The program wishes him well,” Garza said. “The success we’ve had the last two years, he’s one of the main reasons we’ve had the success.”
Luis Medrano, a junior who has been the JV goalkeeper the last two years, will take over for Belanger.
Mount Vernon finished National District runner-up last season and reached the Northern Region quarterfinals.
