The Northern Region swim and dive championships concluded this past Saturday night at the Oak Marr Recreation Center. Oakton High captured both the boys’ and girls’ team titles.
On the girls’ side, the Cougars, in the 24-team field, finished first with 245 points. West Potomac (190) and Langley High Schools (181) finished second and third overall. Rounding out the top five teams were Madison High (162) and Lake Braddock Secondary (155.5).
Local schools competing on the girls’ side included Chantilly (9th place), Westfield (10th), and Centreville (21st).
Top Centre View-area individual girls’ finishers included: Chantilly’s Logan Coulson-Moore (third place in 100-back, fourth in 200-free); Westfield’s Carli Molano (second in 50-free); and Chantilly’s Maggie Shaw (7th in 500-free).
The Chantilly girls’ 200-free relay team of Logan Coulson-Moore, Emma Richer, Lauren Hensley, and Sydney Pereira finished in third place overall. The same Chargers’ foursome also earned fourth place in the 200-medley relay.
The Westfield 200-free relay team of Sierra Higinbotham, Serena Emanuel, Erin Schulte, and Carli Molano finished fifth. The same four also teamed for a fifth place finish in the 400-free relay.
OAKTON WON the boys’ team title with 281.5 points, besting runner-up Woodson (250) and third place Madison High (217). Jefferson and West Springfield finished fourth and fifth. In all 24 teams competed in the region boys’ championships. Chantilly High finished in sixth place with 156 points in the 24-team field.
Top local place finishers included: Chantilly’s Chris Grimmett-Norris, who was champion in the 500-free event and finished second in 200-free; Westfield’s Brandon Fiala (second in 200-IM, second in 100-breaststroke); Westfield’s Richard Xue (third in 200-IM); and Chantilly’s Brian Rothschild (fourth in 200-IM, fourth in 100-free).
The Chantilly boys’ 400-free relay team of Brian Rothschild, Will Schulte, Evan Baker, and Chris Grimmett-Norris finished in second place behind Oakton High.
The Chantilly boys’ 200-medley relay team of Chris Grimmett-Norris, David Stewart, Blair Mason, and Brian Rothschild finished with a sixth place finish.
In the same event, the Westfield relay team of Matthew Glowacki, Brandon Fiala, Richard Xue, and Danial Okhovvat Gilani finished seventh.
CENTREVILLE HIGH had several swimmers put together strong outings at regionals to qualify for upcoming states. The following individual Wildcats and relays will be competing at the state meet: Rachel Anderson (girls’ 100-fly); Logan Ross (girls’ 100-breastroke); the girls’ 200-medley relay of Rachel Anderson, Logan Ross, Abby McCranie, and Kylie Cuomo; and the girls’ 200-freestyle relay team of Logan Ross, Kylie Cuomo, Rachel Anderson, and Abby McCranie.
