The Arlington County Board on Jan. 21 approved funds to renovate High View Park playground and to support nine other parks projects.
The board unanimously approved a $628,082 contract with Francis Lee Companies, LLC to renovate playground and picnic areas in High View Park , located at 1945 N. Dinwiddie St., and to make the 2.55-acre park more accessible to persons with disabilities.
The improvements design was developed following a community process that involved neighbors from the John M. Langston Civic Association. Improvements will include:
An accessible route to the existing amphitheatre.
A large play structure for children five to 12 years old with swings, boulder and climbing wall.
A sand play area with water spigot, swings and a play structure for younger children.
Renovations of the picnic area and gardens.
Funding comes from the Park Maintenance Capital Program.
The board also approved, unanimously, $83,637 for nine Park Enhancement Grant projects that were submitted by residents to the Parks and Recreation Commission . PEG grants, funded through Pay-As-You-Go Capital Improvement Program funds, offer up to $15,000 for approved park projects.
