The McLean Area American Association of University Women (AAUW) is holding its 43rd Annual Used Book Sale Sept. 14-16 at the McLean Community Center to raise money in support of AAUW’s mission of advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research. The McLean Area AAUW Book sale has raised more than half a million dollars over the previous 40-plus years and 30 percent of this year’s revenues will fund scholarships for local women who are returning after some years of interruption to finish their degrees. The remainder of the funds will contribute to the 4.3 million dollars the National AAUW has committed this year for women’s scholarships, research grants and achievement awards and for legal advocacy against discrimination and sexual harassment in the workplace.
The Friday through Sunday, September 14-16, 2012 AAUW Book Sale is well stocked with over forty thousand books plus hundreds of musical CDs as well as DVDs of television series and movies. Recent editions of histories, including many military histories, biographies, political analyses, as well as gardening, health, general literature and business and economics books are abundant. All travel books have been published between 2009 and 2012. There is also an assortment of treasured collectibles and special art books, a huge and very complete collection of mystery stories and many children’s and general interest adult books.
A bonus for attendees will be the raffling of six special baskets. The McLean Area AAUW Used Book Sale will be at the McLean Community Center, 1234 Ingleside Avenue on Friday Sept. 14, 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. Entire bags containing a combination of books, CDs and DVDs are just $7 per bag.
