On April 15, Margaret Kerr, a senior on the West Potomac girls lacrosse team signed a national letter of intent to play lacrosse at Marquette University. She is believed to be the first Division I lacrosse signee in Wolverine history. Through her junior year, Kerr had started every game of her West Potomac career and was a three-year letter winner. A midfielder, she was the leading point scorer for the Wolverines her junior year, the third-leading point scorer her sophomore year and earned all-district honors following both seasons. She had a three-year point total of 97 entering her senior year as well as a career draw control percentage of more than 60 percent. She is a member of the first Marquette women’s lacrosse recruiting class. The Golden Eagles, a member of the Big East Conference, will begin playing a full competitive schedule in the 2012-13 academic year and will begin Big East play the following year.

The Sportsman’s Club will hold its 56th Annual Awards Banquet on May 16 at The Westin Alexandria, located at 400 Courthouse Square. Reception hour begins at 6 p.m. and dinner is served at 7 p.m. The guest speaker will be Navy head football coach Ken Niumatalolo.

<b>Aces Looking For Host Families</b>
The Alexandria Aces Collegiate Summer Baseball Club of the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League is looking for host families for its upcoming 2011 season. Aces players arrive in Alexandria on Memorial Day Weekend. All players need is a place to sleep and access to a washer and dryer, the Aces take care of everything else. <b>Pantherlon 5K Is April 30</b>
The 22nd annual Carl Sandburg Pantherlon 5K Run and 1 mile Fun Run/Walk will be held at 8 a.m. on April 30 at Carl Sandburg Middle School, located at 8428 Fort Hunt Road, Alexandria.
This year’s race will feature professional runners and coaches offering free 20-minute clinics before both the 5K and 1 mile fun run to all registered kindergarten through eighth-grade runners. Topics will include proper stretching, warm-up techniques, race form and race strategy, each targeted to the various age groups. After the race, runners and families may visit kiosks manned by many of the D.C.-area running clubs and running stores to discuss nutrition, find age appropriate follow-up races and ask questions.
