<b>Yorktown Crews Compete at Stotesbury Regatta</b>

The Yorktown crew traveled to Philadelphia to race in the 84th annual Stotesbury Regatta over the weekend of May 14-15.

The team qualified five crews for the Saturday semifinals, the most in 10 years, but none could manage to advance to the coveted "final six" in the Grand Finals.

The boy's senior eight finished fourth in the semifinals, behind St. Joseph Prep of Philadelphia, Thomas Jefferson of Fairfax and the St. Andrews School of Delaware. In the Grand Final, St. Joe's took the gold, St. Albans of Washington D.C. took silver and Winter Park of Florida took bronze.

The Yorktown women's senior eight was fourth in its semifinal. The Patriot women had time trialed 13th overall. No D.C. area schools made the final six.

Also qualifying for semi-finals were the Yorktown Women’s second eight, men's junior eight and men's freshman eight.

Next up for the Patriot crews is the Virginia state championship on May 22 at Occoquan.

<b>Yorktown’s Karvelas Advances</b>

The Yorktown boys tennis team’s No. 1 player, Matt Karvelas, defeated Edison’s Jimmy Nguyen in the National District semifinals last week to advance to the regional singles playoffs upcoming this week. Karvelas finished as runner-up in National District singles competition after a loss to Stuart No. 1 Ryan Shane.

In National District doubles action, the Patriots’ No. 1 team of Karvelas and Sky Leyden earned a third-place finish in the district tournament with their defeat of Washington-Lee’s No. 1 doubles team. Stuart’s doubles team narrowly defeated Yorktown in a three-set match in the semifinals. The Patriots’ full team (12-2 season record) plays Lake Braddock in the first-round of the regional tournament this week.

<b>Wakefield Boys Soccer Ends Season</b>

The seventh-seeded Wakefield boys soccer team ended its season with a 4-0 loss to No. 2 Mount Vernon on May 17 during the opening round of the National District Tournament.
