Bishop O’Connell senior Sarah Jones on Saturday reached the 1,000-point mark for her career with a free throw during an 87-33 win over Don Bosco.
Jones is "a girl that’s really worked hard in her career," Knights coach Jimmy Brown said. She "might not get as much [publicity as others], but she’s just as good."
The win improved O’Connell’s record to 6-3. The Knights faced St. Mary’s Ryken on Tuesday. Results were not available before the Connection’s deadline. O’Connell hosts Paul VI at 7 p.m. Thursday.
<b>O’Connell Boys Lose Three</b>
The Bishop O’Connell boys basketball team lost a trio of games at the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Knights fell to St. Edward (Ohio), 34-29, on Dec. 31, Daniel (S.C.), 77-61, on Dec. 29 and Bishop Gorman (Nevada), 79-62, on Dec. 28.
The defeats dropped O’Connell’s record to 5-5.

<b>Yorktown Boys Go 1-2 at MVHS Tourney</b>
The Yorktown boys basketball team left the Mount Vernon holiday tournament with one win, defeating Oakton, 70-60, during second-day action on Dec. 28.
The Patriots lost to Forest Park, 85-60, on Dec. 26 and McKinley Tech, 63-56, on Dec. 29.
Yorktown faced Oakton on Tuesday. Results were not available before the Connection’s deadline. The Patriots travel to face Falls Church at 7:45 p.m. today.
<b>Yorktown Girls Split against Maryland Schools</b>
The Yorktown girls basketball team beat Churchill and lost to Seneca Valley during a holiday tournament at CHS.
Yorktown defeated Churchill, 52-36, on Dec. 30 and lost to Seneca Valley, 67-59, on Dec. 29.
The Patriots, who started 0-4, were 3-5 after the tournament.

<b>Wakefield Boys Defeat W-L</b>
The Wakefield boys basketball team defeated Washington-Lee, 76-63, on Dec. 30 during a holiday tournament at Wakefield.
Wakefield defeated Massaponax, 84-64, on Dec. 29, and fell to Maret, 36-33, on Dec. 28. Washington-Lee beat Fairfax, 63-53, on Dec. 29 and lost to Cardozo, 53-49, on Dec. 28.
