In a world full of chain hardware stores such as Lowe’s and Home Depot, it is rare to come across a hardware store like Fischer. Tucked away in a strip shopping center in Springfield lies Fischer Hardware, where it has been serving customers for more than 30 years.
Fischer Hardware is known for its personal attention to customers, friendliness, and serving as the jack of all trades when it comes to finding supplies or tools for one’s home. Fischer Hardware has everything one needs for a home, from nails, to fishing rods, to cast iron skillets, to a vast selection of customized paints, to lawn mowers, making it a landmark in the Springfield community
However, what makes Fischer stand out from the typical hardware store, is its personable employees who give helpful one-on-one customer service.
“We give personalized service, you just can’t beat it. If you need anything, even one nail, we got it,” said department manager Chuck Clouser.
Established in 1953, Fischer Hardware has remained a community store specializing in several services including: glass and acrylics, key cutting and re-shaping and knife sharpening.
“If my husband or I ever need to repair anything or have a problem, I know that the people here will have an answer and will actually give you the service you need, unlike some of the bigger stores I’ve shopped at where you can never find anyone who can help you,” said customer Linda Kotkin of Alexandria who has been a Fischer’s customer for 20 years.
