Great Falls Studios, a service organization made up of 88 Great Falls artists, will give away $2,000 in prizes to help promote The Sixth Annual Great Falls Art Studios Tour. The event is on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17 and 18, and a free registration for a drawing to determine prizewinners has already been set up.
Forty certificates, each worth $50 toward purchase of art during the Tour, will be given away. Participants must register online or at various locations in Great Falls. The prize certificates, called “Art Bucks,” can be used toward purchase of art during the Tour or up to five days after. Art prices range from below $50 to several thousand dollars.
The Tour is an annual celebration of creativity that has put Great Falls on the map as a center for the visual arts. Visitors drive the back roads of the village to meet artists in home studios where they create. Last year, more than 2,400 studio visits took place. The Tour is supported by the Arts Council of Fairfax County, the Virginia Commission for the Arts, the Great Falls Foundation for the Arts and the Great Falls Business & Professional Association.
To take part in the online drawing, go to the art group’s Web site, www.GreatFallsStudios.com. Press the “Tour Button” and follow the prompts. Or fill out an entry in person at Great Falls Community Library (9830 Georgetown Pike), Falls Hardware (776 Walker Road), Katie’s Coffee (760 Walker Road), Jennifer's Pastries at the Great Falls Farmer's Market or the Artists’ Atelier (1144 Walker Road). There is a limit of one entry per person, and members of Great Falls Studios and their families are not eligible.
Registration for the drawing closes on Wednesday, Oct,14 at 5 p.m. Selection of the winners will be on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. Winners will be notified by phone immediately and can pick up their prize at the Great Falls Library during the Tour. “Art Bucks” are redeemable for art only.
